MATCH REPORT: SIRENS 3-0 STEYNING TOWN

Southampton Women's FC23 Sep - 17:55

The Sirens are through to the next round of the FA Cup.

The Sirens produced a commanding second-half display to see off their opponents 3-0, with forward Lynn at the heart of a dominant performance.

The opening 45 minutes were a cagey affair, with both sides carving out chances but unable to find the breakthrough. Lynn looked lively throughout, going close on several occasions. The first being denied one-on-one by the goalkeeper and then having a clever finish ruled out for offside.

After the restart, the visitors applied pressure and came close through a series of efforts, but Etheridge was in good form as she made a strong save from a powerful effort to keep the scores level.

After this, the Sirens gained control of the game as just after the hour mark a cross from Crooks nearly caught the keeper out as she parried it onto the bar.

They then took the lead on minute 66 as Lynn pounced on a loose ball after the goalkeeper spilled Ball’s strike, calmly slotting home for 1-0.

Just minutes later, Lynn’s pace won her side a penalty, racing in behind before being clipped from behind.

The captain Mear stepped up and emphatically dispatched the spot-kick into the top corner to double the advantage.

Before the end of the match, young Siren Thomas-Hardman, who has been in the pathway, had come on for her debut after impressing in pre-season.

They then sealed victory in the final moments as Coulter’s pressing forced a mistake, allowing Lynn to curl a superb strike into the far corner for her second of the game and the team’s third.

This win means that the Sirens will travel to Torquay for the next round of the FA Cup.
