After beating Bournemouth Sports by a last-second winner on Tuesday night, Southampton will take on Moneyfields in the next round of the FA Women’s National League Cup.
Southampton narrowly won their Determining Round tie against Sports, with Eliška Lynn scoring from a long-range strike in the final moments of the game.
Moneyfields also advanced to the next round of the Cup by beating a Bournemouth side; an extra-time winner from Shannon Albuery led to them defeating AFC Bournemouth 4-3.
There will be some familiar faces pulling on a yellow shirt this weekend - Albuery, Meg Wood, Britt Jeal, Sara Luce, Kiera Heslam, Lucy Mear and Poppie Weekes have all played for Southampton in recent years.
The Portsmouth-based team have three wins in four matches so far this season, with their most recent being a 3-1 win over Keynsham Town last weekend.
This Sunday will see James Lally sitting in the dugout for his first match in charge of Southampton since his appointment as First Team manager on Monday.
Lally has faced Moneyfields before back in the 2022/23 season whilst First Team manager at Swindon Town, but this weekend he will be taking on a different challenge as he leads a new team of players and management staff into the game.
The Sirens have had a rocky start to the season, but Tuesday night’s win has set the newly-formed squad in motion to show what they can do this year.
