New recruit Shannon Sievwright is hoping her experience and competitive drive can help push on the team.

Southampton Women's FC are eight days away from the league opener against Larkhall Athletic on Sunday, August 21st and the team is starting to come together.

Sievwright joined Southampton from city rivals Southampton FC Women (Saints) and is ready to get going.

She said: "I'm really excited to join the club and start the season. The girls have been so welcoming and we have a really great group.

"I hope I can contribute in order to continue to push the team on to where we want to be."

The former Portsmouth midfielder admits that it was the commitment of manager Aaron Smith that attracted her to the club saying: "As soon as I spoke to Smithy I could tell how committed and passionate he is.

"He commits so much time to the team and to his own personal development. His values really align with mine.

"I think he has recruited a strong coaching team which will continue to challenge my development.

With the 2022/23 campaign so close now what can spectators expect from the double National League title winner, Sievwright said: "I am a competitive player and love to win.

"I want to use my experience to help the team push forward. I have high standards and will try to drive these throughout training and matches.

"I hope to be able to contribute with a few assists and goals."
